The amplified combat helmet had a built-in connection, audio reception, two artificial air supply hoses and a broadband communication antenna powered by a single power cell. The helmet, also known as the "bucket", had built-in filtration systems that extracted breathable air from contaminated environments. The helmet's optical processor helped the user see in the dark, glow and smoke, although it limited his field of vision. When detonating an explosive, the helmet was polarized against the glare. A built-in display also provided diagnostics of targeting, power level and environmental measurements in the user's field of vision, and one could access data on various military issues and political organizations on the helmet display. In addition, motion sensors alerted the user to any enemy that might have escaped the soldier. In an effort to discourage gossip, which was strictly off-duty, stormtrooper helmets recorded everything the user said, sending them to screens for control after retrieving data from the armor memory.
